Identifier of the main activity of the self-employed worker or of the business enterprise among the activities listed in the Nomenclature of French Activities (NAF). Formerly APE code (from 1973 to 1992), since then the new NAF, this code is now composed as follows: e.g. "20.4Z" for the manufacture of wooden containers, "28.5A" for the treatment and coating of metals.

Geographic identifier given when establishing a company; made up of 14 digits (corresponding to 9-digits of the SIREN code followed by 5-digits of NIC). So there may be several SIRETs (Identification System of the Directory of Institutions) for a single SIREN code if the company has several branches.

Identifier assigned by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) at the creation of a company (or in the declaration of existence of self-employed workers, artists and authors). The SIREN code consists of 9 digits.
