Mixture of water

Définition
Sens technique
Mixing occurring in bodies of water. These differ according to their characteristics of water mixture. There are thus: (i) dimictic lakes (which mix twice a year, with direct thermal stratification in the hot season and a reverse stratification when the lake freezes); (ii) meromictic lakes (characterized by a stable stratification of their deep waters); (iii) monomictic lakes (which mix once a year and can be divided into two categories: warm monomictic lakes - the water temperature at the surface and at the bottom does not fall below 4°C, and cold monomictic lakes - called polar, insofar as, in the hot season, the surface waters do not exceed 4°C); and (iv) polymictic lakes (which have an unstable thermal stratification, easily destroyed by wind, during summer).
