Oxidizable material

Updated on 13/07/2018
Définition
Sens commun
Carbonaceous or nitrogenous organic matter (substance of biological origin). Oxidizable materials constitute the bulk of the biodegradable portion of the discharged organic pollution. The bacteria found in the medium use the oxygen dissolved in water to eliminate them. Significant discharges of organic matter can lead to significant losses in dissolved oxygen, thus disrupting the ecological balance of a watercourse.
