Sens technique
Part of a coastal aquifer invaded by salt water (usually sea water) between the bottom of the aquifer and a freshwater-saltwater interface, the salt water wedge being under fresh water. The appearance of a salt wedge, beyond a natural low penetration position, is most often the result of overexploitation of the aquifer.
