Rule defined and adopted by an organization, that is officially in charge of this task, for defining criteria (definitions and thresholds/limits) to be met by the manufactured products. In France, the organization which performs this function is the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR). It publishes N.F. standards (French standard). At the international level, a similar role is provided by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
