Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment in the Baltic Sea Area, signed in 1974 and entered into force in 1980. In 1992, the Helsinki Convention was replaced by a new one, which entered into force in 2000. It aims to prevent and control the pollution of transboundary rivers and international lakes through international cooperation.
