Toxic substance, whose emissions and losses into the environment must be reduced, in accordance with the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC. As planned in the Directive, a first list of substances or families of priority substances was defined by Decision No 2455/2001/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2001 and was included in Annex X.
