Group of shellfish intended for human consumption, defined by the Ministerial Decree of 21 May 1999 concerning the safety classification and the monitoring of production areas and relaying areas for live shellfish. There are three groups in which the different species were regrouped according to their physiology: "GP1" the group designating gastropods (whelks, etc), echinoderms (sea urchins) and tunicates (sea squirts); "GP2" the group designating burrowing bivalves, i.e. the filtering bivalves whose habitat is made of sediments (clams, cockles, etc); "GP3" the group designating non-burrowing bivalves, i.e. the filtering bivalves whose habitat is located outside sediments (oysters, mussels, etc).
