Bathing Water Directive

Directive 76/160/EEC of the Council of 8 December 1975 concerning the quality of bathing waters. It concerns the quality of bathing waters with the exception of water intended for therapeutic purposes and water for swimming pools. Member States shall set values of physico-chemical and microbiological parameters applicable to bathing waters listed in the Annex to the Directive. This directive was transcribed into French law by Decree of 12/19/1991, which also transcribes other directives (fish life, shellfish waters, etc).
