Sens commun
Inland body of surface freshwater, free standing water of natural or anthropogenic origin, with variable depth. It may have features of thermal stratification. The term "body of water" covers a number of situations commonly called lakes, reservoirs, ponds, gravel pits, quarries or marshes. The definitions related to these different situations are numerous and often refer to uses.
