Définition
Sens commun

Natural phenomenon, usually caused by the current, involved in the transport of sediment load and sediment recharge of streams. The erosion of river banks is causing migration of meanders, and ensures the dynamic functioning of the watercourse. However, there are unnatural kinds of erosion of a river bank: the trampling of the river bank by cattle (weakens the bank and removes vegetation); non-adapted planting on the bank (softwood and poplar); lairs of coypus and exotic crayfish (especially clarkia). These unnatural erosions of river banks have a serious impact on the functioning of the stream when it comes to an important linear.
