Study whose terms, requirements and name, depending of the project importance (impact assessment), are determined by the rules defined in the decrees (under the nature conservation law of 18 July 1976). The impact assessment identifies factors associated with a development project that may have greater or lesser effects on the environment, allowing assessing the consequences and identifying corrective measures. It is a necessary part of the application for an authorization to establish and operate planned facilities that must be recorded for public inquiry if necessary.
