Line essentially distinguishing the public maritime domain (at its downstream part) from the public waterways domain (if the stream is state-owned) or from the private domain of riverside residents (at its upstream part). The maritime lateral limit is the real limit in the domestic law governing maritime activities, and is used as a reference to determine the "sea shore" communities according to the Coastal Law. Decree No. 2004-309 of 29 March 2004 on the procedure for delimitation of sea shore, foreshore, coastal relay, maritime lateral limit at the mouth of rivers and streams defines the procedure that should be applied.
