Sens technique
Pursuant to Act No. 76-629 of 10 July 1976 (art. L.242-1 and following articles of the Rural Code), nature reserves are classified areas when conservation of fauna, flora, soil, water, mineral deposits and excavations and, in general, of the natural environment is of particular importance or when it is appropriate to avoid any man-made facility likely to deteriorate them. The classification may affect the public maritime domain and French territorial waters. Reserves could have been created before according to Article 8a of the Act of 2 May 1930 (Eider-IFEN).
