Salt water demarcation line

Boundary between seawater and river water. The salt water demarcation line is, in estuaries, the boundary between the areas in which regulations are applied on sea fishing and on river fishing. The salt water demarcation line in rivers, streams and canals is determined by the decrees of 4 July 1853 (for the North Sea, the Channel, and the Atlantic Ocean) and 19 November 1859 (for the Mediterranean Sea). It is determined after analysis of water salinity at several points. The Decree 75-293 regulates fishing on the public maritime domain and on the part of State-owned waterways located downstream of the salt water demarcation line. This limit is used in the regulation when it comes to dealing with living species.
