A qualitative or quantitative value that provides information considered interesting about an environmental component, but whose evolution alone cannot be interpreted or does not provide information about biodiversity.
Environmental, social or economic consequences induced by a change in the state of a biodiversity component.
Mechanism or set of physical, chemical or biological mechanisms, derived from human activity, which has a negative effect on at least one component of biodiversity.
A public, private or associative entity or system — most often involving multiple partners — specifically dedicated to observing biodiversity in a given territory and sometimes a particular theme, and which contributes to the production and dissemination of information from the data collected, in order to improve understanding.
The result of numerical processing of one or more biodiversity-related variables (e.g. taxonomic richness, average abundance of common species, etc.). A biodiversity metric is a component, sometimes unique, of an indicator calculation. The notion of metric includes not only the result, but also the processing method.

Condition, at a given moment, of a biodiversity component (species or ecosystem), characterized by its structure, functioning and species community (for ecosystems), or by its abundance, distribution, traits and genetics (for species).
Consequence of one or more anthropogenic pressures or responses on one of the components of biodiversity. Different pressures can have the same impact.
