Environmental objective

A goal required by the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The latter sets out four key environmental objectives that are: the non-deterioration of water bodies, the achievement of "good status" or "good potential" of water bodies by 2015, the reduction or elimination of pollution by "priority substances", and compliance with all standards by 2015 in protected areas. The targets for water bodies and objectives of reduction or elimination of priority substances are included in the river basin management plans (SDAGEs).
